Kidville hosts singalong March 20

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Kidville in The Woodlands is hosting a special "Sing With Me" song and story time on March 20 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.,encouraging parents, grandparents and caregivers of all types to sing to their little ones. March is "Sing With Your Child" month and to get in the spirit, participants will learn how to use the power of music to connect with their kids.

"There are all sorts of reasons to sing with your child," says Karen Roberts, owner of Kidville in The Woodlands. "Music can be very magical, very comforting. Parents think they can't sing well, but their kids don't care. It's a way to love your child."

Singing stimulates language development in small children. It is comforting to kids and by using the same song and different times of the day, it can help with transitions. At Kidville, Roberts and her staff use singing to help kids adjust when their parents drop them off, to get kids to help pick up classrooms, and to know when it's time to switch from one activity to another.

"If you have a favorite song you sign at bedtime and you're not there, Grandma or a babysitter can sing that song and comfort your child," Roberts says. "We use singing for everything. Cleanup, hello and goodbye, putting balls away or putting our toes on the line."

"Sing With Me" attendees will start with 30 minutes of stories and singing led by the voice and guitar of Kidville favorite Ms. Renee and Ms. Amanda. Following the sing-along, kids will play for an hour in the Kidville gym. The event is free to members, and this month friends get in free with a member. Guests can test out their vocal range and enjoy the fun for $10.

Kidville in The Woodlands, located in the Cochran's Crossing Shopping Center, provides creative gym, drama, dance, music and pre-school classes with an emphasis on the positive impact of creative play on young minds.
