Lady War Eagles' comeback comes up short

The Woodlands, Oak Ridge each drop season openers on road


BRYAN, Texas -- The Oak Ridge Lady War Eagles opened the basketball season with a tough 53-51 loss to Bryan on Tuesday night at Bryan High School.

Oak Ridge fell behind 18-4 at the end of the first quarter and was forced to play from behind the rest of the night.

Kameron Boren led the Lady War Eagles with 15 points. Rayven Peeples and Kelsey Scibek each finished with 11.

Lady Eagles roll in second half to hand Lady Highlanders season opening loss

MONT BELVIEU, Texas -- The Woodlands Lady Highlanders played an excellent first half before the tradition-rich Barbers Hill Lady Eagles pulled away in the second half for an easy 73-48 victory in both teams' basketball season opener on Tuesday night.

The Woodlands opened up a 15-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and trailed only 27-26 at halftime. But the Lady Eagles, behind the play of Jakali Philips and Kimi Carter, outscored the Lady Highlanders 25-10 in the third period and 21-12 in the fourth to score the 25-point win.
Payton Walker had 11 points to pace The Woodlands.

Philips had 21 and Charli Carter added 13 for Barbers Hill. Carter and Leah Silva also had 12 points apiece.
