THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Luisa De La Rosa and The Woodlands Lady Highlander basketball team controlled the pace over a young College Park squad in a lopsided affair, 59-29 at home on Friday night.

De La Rosa was all over the court in recording a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds. Lady Highlander coach, Dana Bruton is impressed with Luisa's all around game despite just recently taking up the sport.

"Luisa is a diamond in the rough in that she's new to basketball. She's an awesome rebounder and always has a smile on her face,” said Lady Highlanders Head Coach Dana Bruton.

Not to be outdone, The Woodlands (13-12, 3-2) Payton Walker had her own double-double tallying 12 points and 11 rebounds, four steals and no turnovers.

"Payton is a great athlete and teammate. She's an incredibly hard worker and is very physical which translates to her being an excellent rebounder and defender,” said Bruton.

The Woodlands got out of the gate quick in building a comfortable early lead after one of quarter of play, 19-4. College Park (1-18, 0-4), fought gamely in the second stanza but their efforts to push the ball inside were thwarted by De La Rosa, Walker and company. Without having any success in the paint, they (College Park) were forced to settle for jump shots and the ball wasn't finding net as the Lady Cavs shot 3-for-11 in three-point field goals.

With a comfortable 30-11 lead at halftime, Bruton was able to play the whole bench extended minutes in the second half getting contributions from every varsity player.

"Meghan Musso and Julia Glandt got great minutes and both did a terrific job handling pressure, nice shooting by both of these girls tonight. Amber Terry adds maturity and great vision on the court. She penetrates and scores and adds another layer of offense for us. Aliyah Wheatfall is just two games back from a broken hand and it's nice to have her on the court again. She adds speed and intensity on the offensive and defensive end of the floor. Eliza Flores comes off the bench and adds depth in the three and four spots. She has a good touch on the ball and is strong defensively,” said Bruton.

The Lady Highlanders will have a bye on Tuesday and return to action on Friday, January 16, at 7pm at Oak Ridge.
