Health Center offers uninsured women free health screenings Oct 1
CONROE, Texas - Lone Star Family Health Center (LSFHC) will offer free mammograms, cervical cancer screenings and same-day results to uninsured women on Saturday, October 1, 2016.
These services are offered through See, Test & Treat®, the flagship undertaking of the College of American Pathologists and the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas, which is targeted to help women who live below 200 percent of the federal poverty level and are without insurance. See, Test & Treat® is led by Kyle Eskue, MD, FCAP, a member of the College of American Pathologists of Northfield, Illinois.
LSFHC has screened more than 200 uninsured women for breast and cervical cancer through this event and educated them on topics such as healthy eating, colon health and oral health while they wait for same-day test results. Twenty percent of women who attend a See, Test & Treat event make LSFHC their medical home, starting on a road to long-term health care. Cervical cancer screenings are available for uninsured women 21 to 64 and mammograms for women 40 to 64.
“One of our main goals at LSFHC is to provide access to care for the community,” says Marilyn Kasmiersky, LSFHC Director of Professional and Government Relations and the event’s coordinator, ”this event allows us to provide well woman exams, same day results and in-patient treatment if needed at no cost to the women we serve as this community’s health center.”
See, Test & Treat offers a weekend event where uninsured women can receive a breast exam, mammogram, and pelvic exam, obtain the results and have those results explained to them by a doctor in just one day, all free of charge. A health fair is hosted and education sessions like financial wellness classes with Woodforest National Bank are available. This year’s event will be hosted at LSFHC’s Conroe location, and uninsured women who would like to participate should call (936) 523-5204 for pre-qualification and an appointment. Appointments are required.
The event is supported by the College of American Pathologists Foundation and endorsed by the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas. This year’s event at LSFHC is also sponsored by The Susan G. Komen Affiliate of Houston, The United Way of Greater Houston, LabCorp, CB&I, MD Anderson and FAITH.
