9/1 at Iola High School WIN 27-8

John Cooper is 1-0 for the season. They take on SPC 3A foe Irving Cistercian Friday September 8, 2017 @ 7:00 PM.

Quarterback Evan Minarovic completed 24 of 40 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.

Thomas Elkhoury had 10 catches for 123 yards and 2 receiving TDs. Logan Leax had eight catches for 67 yards. Eric Grosser had two catches for 64 yards, and Matt Krehbiel had two for 51.

Eric Grosser had 10 tackles. Matt Krehbiel and Andrew Saibara each had eight tackles. Cameron Reed had seven tackles. Saibara had a sack and 2.5 tackles for loss.

From Coach Brent Landrum: Friday night’s win was a complete team effort. The defense played an outstanding game. They controlled the line of scrimmage all night long. We had great contributions on special teams. The offense played a great first half. They struggled to get back in rhythm in the second half. I am very pleased with our performance given the fact that we had very little practice due to the hurricane. This week’s game versus Irving Cistercian will be a tough match up. They played in the SPC 3A championship game last year and they return their QB and RB. I expect a tough battle. I also expect my guys to meet the challenge.

Next up for Dragon Football:
September 8 vs. Cistercian Prep, 7 p.m. first home game

September 15 vs. Kipp Academy, 7 p.m. homecoming
