THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Several high school girls learned “Seven Steps You Can Follow Right Now To Become A Millionaire” when Byron W. Ellis recently spoke to the National Charity League’s Bluebonnet Chapter in The Woodlands.

Ellis is a Wealth Advisor and serves as the Managing Director of United Capital in The Woodlands. His presentation, which is part of his Doing Money Right program, covered topics about money management and checkbook balancing. The seven steps he shared with the teens were to:

#1: Set goals and write them down.

#2: Open a checking account and balance your statements.

#3: Understand that debt can kill you financially.

#4: Give 10 percent and save 10 percent.

#5: Understand why compounding interest over time is your friend.

#6: Automate your savings and bill paying.

#7: Have a written budget.

“The talk with Mr. Ellis was really informative and interesting,” said Caitlin Charbonneau, a member of the National Charity League’s Bluebonnet Chapter in The Woodlands Class of 2018. “By explaining things in a way that’s easy for a teen to understand, he taught me how to be smart with money and set myself up to have a successful, relaxed future.”

Ellis added, “I am passionate about speaking to young people about personal finance success and hopefully influence them at an early age. When I was a kid, I would read Money magazine just for fun. There was a regular section that would highlight a family, their current financial situation, and what they wanted out of life. I loved to read what advice the ‘professionals’ had for the family. After spending years and my education learning as much as I could about money and ways to use it to do the things that people really want to do, I became a professional financial planner. In April of 2015, I was actually one of the professionals counseling a couple on Money.com. My life had come full circle!”

The Bluebonnet Chapter of the National Charity League has a committed mother/daughter membership that loves serving the community. Since its charter 25 years ago in The Woodlands, it has grown to over 275 active members. The Bluebonnet Chapter has also served the community with approximately 148,000 volunteer hours.
