CONROE, Texas – Conroe ISD is excited to announce two interim principals for the District.

Mrs. Rotasha Smith, principal of Peet Junior High School, has been named Interim Principal of Conroe High School. Dr. Mark Weatherly, Conroe High Principal, was named Director of Secondary Instruction for New Caney ISD on Monday initiating the vacancy.

Mrs. Smith is very familiar with the Conroe High School Tiger Family as she has served her entire 17 years in education in the Conroe community. She began her career in education at Washington Junior High School as a teacher and Academic Support Specialist where she served for eight years. Mrs. Smith then became an associate principal for two years and assistant principal for three years at Conroe High School, and has served as principal of Peet Jr. High for the past four years. Mrs. Smith earned her bachelors and master’s degrees from Sam Houston State University. She is married to Thomas and has one son, Bryce, who is a third grader at Giesinger Elementary.

Mr. Chris Kuempel, assistant principal at Peet Junior High School, has been named interim principal of the school to fill the position created by Mrs. Smith’s transfer to Conroe High School. Mr. Kuempel has 19 years of experience in education. Prior to coming to Conroe ISD, he taught math and coached in Crosby ISD. He also taught math in Spring ISD. In 2006, Mr. Kuempel came to Conroe ISD to teach math and coach at Peet Jr. High School for six years. Mr. Kuempel then served at Knox Jr. High for two years as an assistant principal prior to coming back to Peet Jr. High where he has served as an assistant principal for the past four years. Mr. Kuempel’s wife Lucy teaches at Conroe High School Ninth Grade Campus where their daughter, Emma, will begin attending this fall.

In referencing Dr. Weatherly’s time in Conroe ISD, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Chris Hines stated, “He has done a great job as principal of Conroe High School and we want to congratulate him on his new position and wish him the best.” Dr. Hines continued, “Conroe ISD is fortunate in that we have so many outstanding leaders that can step up with little notice. We are proud to welcome Mrs. Smith and Mr. Kuempel to their new roles as we ramp up for the start of a new and exciting school year.”
