SJRA Situational Update Thursday, May 9, 2019, For Lake Conroe

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA) continues to implement its standard protocols for a severe weather event, including establishing 24-hour operational schedules, testing all equipment, positioning generators and fuel, and activating its reservoir operations center.

CURRENT CONDITIONS
• LAKE CONROE CURRENT STATUS: The Lake Conroe watershed has received less than 1?4 inch of rain over the last 24 hours. This break in the rainfall has allowed the lake level to stabilize at 201.43’ mean sea level (MSL) which is about 5 inches over the normal level for Lake Conroe. We are still releasing at a modest rate of 2,130 cubic feet per second (cfs).
• CURRENT RIVER STATUS: The Houston region has had a much-needed respite from the rains over the past 24 hours, which is allowing most of the watersheds to drain out. Both the East and West Forks of the San Jacinto River are below action stage.
• LAKE CONROE FORECAST: Based on the current rainfall forecast (which could vary greatly due to isolated higher rainfall totals), Lake Conroe is not expected to exceed 203’ msl. Releases are expected to remain moderate at less than 6,000 cfs. These are only estimates and are completely dependent on current weather predictions.

With a predicted 4 to 8 inches of rain over the next three days, SJRA is preparing for possible short-term, high intensity rainfall and encourages residents to closely monitor rainfall totals and be prepared for localized flash flooding.

SJRA continues to coordinate with Harris County Flood Control District, the City of Houston, Montgomery County EOC, and Coastal Water Authority and will activate with the Regional Joint Information Center at Transtar later today.
