CONROE, TX -- Yasmeen Khan, a sophomore at Grand Oaks High School, was named a 2020 National YoungArts Foundation Finalist in Writing.

The National YoungArts Foundation identifies the most accomplished young artists in the visual, literary and performing arts, and provides them with creative and professional development opportunities throughout their careers.

Yasmeen was one of 150 Finalists selected from over 7,000 applicants from all over the United States. As a Finalist, Yasmeen is eligible for cash prizes of up to $10,000 and has the opportunity to participate in National YoungArts Week in Miami. National YoungArts Week is the organization’s signature program, providing winners with an intensive, weeklong and all- inclusive program featuring master classes, workshops and mentorship from leading artists in their fields.

Through her recognition, Yasmeen is also eligible to be nominated to become a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, one of the highest honors given to high school students bestowed by the President of the United States.

Past YoungArts winners include Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis, Academy Award nominee Timothee Chalamet, Scandal star Kerry Washington, singer/actress Vanessa Williams, trumpeter Roy Hargrove and recording artists Nicki Minaj and Josh Groban.

This is a landmark honor in Yasmeen’s young career. In the past, her work has been recognized by The Adroit Prizes, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, the Texas Book Festival, and the Montgomery County Women's Center.
