Cooper Sixth Grader Wins Campus Geography Bee Eligible to Take Qualifying Test to Compete at State

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Each year, students in schools across the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The annual GEOBEE is an academic competition that includes participants in grades four through eight who are posed questions on geography, civilizations, cultures, physical features and more. Twelve students in grades five through eight at The John Cooper School participated in the school-level Bee on December 19 by placing first during elimination rounds in their history classes. Of those, sixth grader Ben Hemmert was determined the school-level winner and eighth grader Michael Stupek was runner-up. Hemmert is eligible to take an online qualifying test to qualify to compete at the state level Geography Bee that will be held on March 27.

This year’s contestants included: Fifth graders Matthew Champness, Fizza Hasan and Cayson Wang; Sixth graders Aaron Connolly, Ben Hemmert and Gavin Winter; Seventh graders Reed Cloninger, Saif Rizvi and Presley Sansbury; Eighth graders Ben Knight, Michael Stupek and William Warwick.
