Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Arrest Male for Sexual Assault in The Woodlands

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- On January 6, 2020, at about 6:00 pm, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 4500 block of South Panther Creek Drive, The Woodlands in reference to a sexual assault. Deputies arrived and met with an intellectually disabled 48-year-old white female, who stated an unknown black male arrived at her apartment selling magazines. After speaking at the door a few moments, the male came into her apartment where the two sat on the sofa. The victim advised that while in the apartment the male sexually assaulted her and then left. The victim notified the family who contacted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Through the investigative efforts of Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Detectives, it was discovered that on January 2, 2020, The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding an aggressive black male selling magazines door-to-door in the Woodlands area. During this incident, the citizen called after the suspect became agitated and felt the suspect was attempting to gain access to her home. Deputies were dispatched to the area and identified Benjamen Gilbert, a 37-year-old male from Houston. Due to the fact that no criminal offense occurred, Gilbert was released.

As a result of the investigation, Gilbert was identified as the suspect in the sexual assault. Deputies and Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office met with Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and with their assistance, a warrant for sexual assault was immediately requested and subsequently issued by Judge Lisa Michalk.

On Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at about 3:30 pm, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office patrol deputies were dispatched to a call for service in reference to a suspicious person in the area of West Laurelhurst Circle in The Woodlands. Upon arrival, the responding Deputies located the suspicious person and identified him as Benjamen Gilbert. Gilbert was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant without incident.

Gilbert is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail for the charge of sexual assault with a $250,000 bond.
