HOUSTON, TX - While families across the Gulf Coast prepare for Hurricane Laura, forecast to impact several coastal states this week, Kroger stores across Texas and Louisiana are supporting those communities in a number of ways, including helping them stock up on much needed supplies ahead of the storm.

Kroger is here to serve Texas and Louisiana during preparations and in aftermath of the storm.

However, Kroger has announced that they will close all Houston area stores at 6pm tonight, to ensure their associates and their families can stay safe through the storm.

“We want all of our customers and associates to be informed and prepared, but also for them to be safe” said Joe Kelley, President of Kroger, Houston. “We have stores across the areas of the storm’s impact, and we will keep those stores open until 6pm tonight so customers can safely access the food and emergency supplies they need. After that, it’s about ensuring our teams are safe with their families and out of harm’s way.”

Another way Kroger is preparing is through their support of disaster relief through the American Red Cross, recently donating half-a-million dollars to the organization to support local communities in crisis. Customers can help too - starting on Thursday, customers can choose to round-up their total at checkout to the nearest dollar, with proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross.

“We have a responsibility to our communities to be there in times of crisis and our Emergency Response Team has been working round the clock to prepare for Hurricane Laura,” said Clara Campbell, Corporate Affairs Manager. “We will continue to direct relief efforts to where it’s needed, and we will be right here for our neighbors.”

In addition to their support of local disaster relief organizations, Kroger’s mobile pharmacy has been deployed to provide much needed prescription medication to local evacuee shelters during the recovery from Hurricane Laura.
