THE WOODLANDS, TX --

Girls Basketball

Grand Oaks 27, Conroe 25

Big-time players make big-time plays, so it’s no surprise that Kaitlyn Stewart, the game’s leading scorer, hit the game’s biggest shot. With about 30 seconds left in the game, Stewart beat her defender to the basket and scored the game-winning layup to keep the Grizzlies in a tie for first place in District 13-6A.

It wasn’t the prettiest game. Both teams turned the ball over frequently, and there seemed to be a lid on the rim for most of the night, but gritty, close wins are always needed in a season.

Grand Oaks led most of the night, but Conroe stayed within striking distance and hit big shots at the end of the second and third quarters to build momentum. Daniela Galindo got the shooter’s bounce on her three-pointer with 1:06 to go in the game to tie the score at 25. Then, when Grand Oaks needed players to step up, Stewart took the lead, and Kylee Myers blocked Conroe’s shot at the other end to help secure the win.

Tiarra Howard and Daniela Galindo led the Tigers with seven points. Kaitlyn Stewart and Ngozi Agoh led the Grizzlies with 11 and six points respectively.
