Houston, TX – Grand Oaks Lady Grizzlies had a dominating district season, topping the boards along side the Conroe Lady Tigers. The 13-6A district is known for having tough competition within itself but outside Grand Oaks is the new kid on the block. Sharing the district championship with Conroe, the Lady Grizzlies showed everyone that they were the team to beat. Making school history Grand Oaks, moved on to the Bi-District round to face the 10-4 Nimitz Cougars who finished off 3rd in their district.

The Lady Grizzlies were all smiles as they stepped foot on the court warming up before tipoff. Opposite from them, The Nimitz Cougars were all work as they went through drills warming up to face a strong opponent. As the whistle blew, each team cautiously ran up and down the court feeling out each other before laying the pressure on the shooter. Grand Oaks was first to strike and from then on held the lead at the end of the first two quarters.

“We are pretty much trying to be a little bit more aggressive on defense,” said Grand Oaks head coach Shiakiea Carter. And it showed as they closed down the passing lanes and forced turnovers before Nimitz could get to the other end of the court.

Grand Oaks has the appearance of playing slow and having minimal emotion when they make huge plays. This doesn’t negate the fact that they are putting up numbers and by the 3rd, the Lady Grizzlies extended their lead by 20. Led by Bree Riley (#11) and Sarah Scott (#32) Grand Oaks put on a clinic in the second half. They closed out Nimitz 55-37 securing their spot in the Area Playoff Round.
