THE WOODLANDS, TX --

Girls Basketball

Oak Ridge 48, College Park 43

For the second time, the War Eagles and Cavaliers played a close game. And for the second time, Oak Ridge came away with the win to stay at the top of the district standings. Fueled by the home crowd, College Park jumped out to a quick lead over Oak Ridge. The Cavaliers had success scoring both inside and out while Oak Ridge stumbled out of the gate. However, Oak Ridge has shown many times this season that once they get going, they know how to take control of the game and make it very difficult for the opponent to get it back.

An 11-3 start for College Park was soon cut to just a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Shortly into the second quarter, the War Eagles completed their turnaround as Emei St. Laurent’s layup gave The Ridge their first lead of the night. Oak Ridge went into halftime with the lead and held it for most of the third quarter until Ali Diop decided to spark a Cavaliers comeback. Diop hit a three and a couple of layups to help College Park briefly retake the lead.

Oak Ridge led by just three at the start of the fourth quarter and both teams had the opportunity to take over down the stretch, but it was Oak Ridge who cut out the mistakes and hit shots when they had to have them. A big-time three from Nikki Petrakovitz late in the quarter helped the War Eagles secure the road win.
