Montgomery County COVID-19 Update for August 16, 2021

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- – Montgomery County Public Health District, in conjunction with the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, can confirm
hospitalizations for COVID-19 remain at an all-time high in Montgomery County. The vast majority of new cases and hospitalizations are in those who are unvaccinated.

Since our August 13th report, we can confirm one additional death related to COVID-19.


• A woman in her 70s, from Magnolia, died in the hospital. She had co-morbidities in
addition to testing positive for COVID-19. She was not vaccinated.
We can also confirm:

• TOTAL cases of COVID-19 increased by 1,033 to 65,505 since Friday’s (8/13) report. Of
the 1,033 new cases, 75 are under the age of 12 and not eligible for vaccination. Just
halfway through August, we have now surpassed the number of cases in children under
12 in the entire month of July.

• ACTIVE cases of COVID-19 increased by 608 to 7,639 since Friday’s (8/13) report. Today,
we added 137 additional inactive cases who we have been unable to contact for 30 days
or more.

• 209 county residents are known, as a result of contact investigations, to be in the
hospital. Contact investigations have not been initiated on all reported cases.

• 31,268 people have clinically recovered.

The Testing Positivity Rate for Montgomery County has decreased to 22%, down from 23% on Friday.
