The Woodlands Township hears from Entergy, honors John Powers, issues 3 proclamations, discusses rodeo bus service

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township Board of Directors issued three proclamations, recognized the retirement of Assistant General Manager John Powers and heard a presentation from Entergy during their Regular Board Meeting on December 8, 2021. The Woodlands Township is also making plans to offer bus service to the 2022 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo through The Woodlands Express Park and Ride Service on weekends during the rodeo.

Following public comment at the meeting, President/General Manager Jeff Jones recognized John Powers, Assistant General Manager for Community Services, on the occasion of his retirement after 23 years of service in The Woodlands. (Please see separate news release.)

The Board issued three proclamations, including recognition of The John Cooper School championship football program, the Tomball ISD Creekside schools for their peanut butter food drive and Keep US Fed Montgomery County.

In addition, the Board heard a presentation from Entergy representatives who described improvements that have been made to the electrical system serving The Woodlands in the past year. Entergy recommends their customers to download the Entergy app and sign up for MyEntergy in order to receive the best and most updated communications from Entergy.

On the Consent agenda, the Board:

• Approved the 2022 Township Pay Structure.

• Approved a Paid Quarantine Leave Policy for employees of The Woodlands Fire Department.

• Awarded a bid for a Work Order and Asset Management System (C-2021-0465).

• Passed a Resolution No. 023-21, adopting the Texas Term Sheet as required for joining the global opioid settlement.

On the regular agenda, the Board:

• Received the financial report.

• Approved the 2022 service agreement with The Woodlands Economic Development Partnership (C-2021-0289) subject to receiving further financial information.

• Deferred action regarding the Harris County Appraisal District Board of Directors Special Districts’ Election ballot.

• Received a presentation regarding plans to offer The Woodlands Express bus service to the 2022 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on weekends.

• Appointed Directors Rieser, Milner and Sekula-Gibbs to the Audit Committee.

• Deferred appointments to the One Water Task Force until after a strategic planning session is held in January.

• Appointed Director Nelson to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Council.

• Appointed Director Snyder to the Law Enforcement Advisory Council.

• Approved a meeting schedule for January to include regular board meetings and a strategic planning session. Chairman Bunch suggested reconsidering the schedule for 2022 following the strategic planning session. Please visit The Woodlands Township website for updates on the meeting schedule.

• Recessed to Executive Session. The Board reconvened and approved the Performance Review of The Township's President/General Manager, including a three percent salary increase.
