The Woodlands Township’s ‘Touch-a-Truck’ event will bring hands-on fun to families of all ages this Saturday

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands Township Recreation Programs Department unceasingly works at bringing events of all types to Woodlands-area residents and families. Some of these events are actively adult, some are sedately serene, and one in particular impacts on all the senses at the same time.

This Saturday, February 26, the Township is hosting its annual ‘Touch-a-Truck’ event, which has been presented for more than a decade and has been overseen for the past four years by recreation program coordinator Mark Lazenby. At the event, participants are encouraged – and expected – to get up close and personal with all kinds of big trucks, off-road mudders, various first responder vehicles, and more.

Touch-a-Truck encourages children of all ages to touch vehicles, ask questions and even climb on the trucks and vehicles on display. In addition, there will be a do-it-yourself kids’ construction zone equipped with fun crafts and games.

The fun begins at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park on the west side of The Woodlands (at 6464 Creekside Forest Dr) at 9:00 a.m for children and families of all ages. For the first hour, the event organizers strive for it to be as noise-free and sensory-friendly as possible for children and adults who might be adversely affected by sense overload. However, at 10:00 a.m. and for the next two hours after that, all bets are off and the horns, lights, engines, and sirens will be in full action.

The presenting sponsor for this year’s event is Soccer Shots The Woodlands / Spring. This community-driven company that provides engaging soccer programs that focus on character development stepped up last October with their desire to provide sponsorship. Several other sponsors have also lined up to bring to the event’s attendees the best time possible.

Numerous unique vehicles of all types will be present for little hands to push buttons and twist dials on. Several custom Township vehicles, tractors and backhoes, large trucks from both Waste Connections and Waste Management, police vehicles from various law enforcement agencies based in both Harris and Montgomery counties, and even a couple of large fire trucks from The Woodlands Fire Department are expected to be there with lights flashing and horns blazing. The organizations that provide the vehicles also provide expert operators and personnel trained in handling the curiosity – and determination – of the children for a safe, secure, and sensational day.

No registration is required and the event is free and open to the public. The Woodlands Online Weather Department does note that there is a projected chance of showers that day, so in the event of inclement weather, interested parties should call 281-210-3950 before heading out “just in case.”
