THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township proudly joins communities across the country in celebrating Parks and Recreation Month this July, as designated by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). This year’s theme, “Build Together, Play Together,” recognizes the critical role park and recreation professionals play in fostering vibrant, healthy and resilient communities.

Join the Township in celebrating all month long

Parks and recreation services contribute to the health and well-being of millions of people nationwide, creating spaces that cultivate friendships, family bonds and memories that last a lifetime. The Woodlands Township takes this opportunity to honor the dedicated full-time, part-time, seasonal staff and volunteers who make our local parks and recreation programs possible.

A Community Built Around Recreation
The Woodlands Township is nationally recognized for its extensive and thoughtfully designed park system. More than 150 community parks and over 220 miles of hike and bike pathways connect residential villages, ensuring that 100% of homes are within a 10-minute walk of a park, pathway or open space. These accessible amenities provide residents with ample opportunities to stay active, connect with neighbors and enjoy nature close to home.

Outdoor Amenities for All Ages
Whether it’s enjoying one of 95 playgrounds, 80+ tennis courts, 8+ pickleball courts, 43 sports fields, or 37 basketball and volleyball courts, The Woodlands offers something for everyone. To beat the Texas heat, residents can cool off at 14 community pools and eight spraygrounds throughout the Township. Water lovers can also visit Riva Row Boat House and Lakes Edge Boat House to enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding and other watersport rentals.

Unique Adventures Await
For those looking for a different kind of outdoor challenge, Texas TreeVentures, located near Rob Fleming Park and the George Mitchell Nature Preserve, provides a thrilling aerial adventure course in a beautiful forested setting. The nearby nature preserve features several miles of shaded trails, abundant wildlife and scenic views along Spring Creek.

Year-Round Programs and Events
The Township’s Parks and Recreation Department also operates two major recreation centers. The Recreation Center at Bear Branch and The Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park host more than 60 special events each year and offer an array of programs, camps and classes for all ages and interests. Details are available in the 2025 Summer Activity Guide, now available online.

Celebrate With Us
This July, The Woodlands Township encourages all residents to explore the parks, pathways and recreational programs that make our community exceptional. To learn more, watch “Branches of Impact,” a video highlighting the impact of parks and recreation in The Woodlands.
