THE WOODLANDS, TX – The local office of the US National Weather Service has issued a series of alerts to area residents as today’s weather morphs from light rain into a possibly raging stormy evening and night to mark the first day of spring.

Heavy storms, street flooding, and possible tornado activity on the horizon

According to an official statement put out by the NWS, “A multifaceted severe weather event will impact SE Texas today as widespread thunderstorms develop ahead of and along an advancing surface cold front. Strong wind gusts, large hail, tornadoes, street flooding, and frequent lightning will be possible. Strong to severe thunderstorms will be the initial threat during the late afternoon and early evening hours.”

A Flood Watch has been issued that will go into effect at 7 o’clock this evening and is expected to last for at least twelve hours. A moderate risk for excessive rainfall is currently listed for Monday evening for The Woodlands area, carrying through tomorrow as a slightly lower risk. Street flooding with 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected, with some isolated areas suffering from even more water depths.

Woodlands Online Weather strongly encourages residents to keep off the roads unless absolutely necessary. If you must drive, be sure to keep extra space between you and other vehicles, and attempt to avoid outside lanes if there is water buildup. Avoid unfamiliar roads and routes.
