THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands College Park High School’s Academy of Science & Technology gets to celebrate a significant win for the third year in a row, thanks to the talents and skills of its resident team of seniors, The Timekeepers.

Teens ditch Graduation Night to head to Kansas City for innovative competition

The team, consisting of TWCP seniors Abram Allen, Naman Arora, Marley Bartholomew, Jonathan Kim, and Rheanna Patel. This group of intrepid teens was so avid to win the Destination Imagination competition in a hat trick that they decided to give any Graduation Night celebrations so that they would be well-rested for their early-morning flight to Kansas City to compete.

Spectators expecting a nerd version of Jeopardy! were in for a shock and a treat. Instead of buzzer-busting trivia Q&As prevalent in most academic challenges, this competition involved a science-based sketch that embraces a certain theme. The Timekeepers came up with a singing, dancing, instrument-playing, laced with robotics and mechanics sojourn into the perils of time travel. The team’s efforts were enough for them to clinch the Global Award for the third year in a row, something that no other team in the United States has ever done.

The award-winning presentation of The Timekeepers:

Team member Jonathan Kim was effusive in his praise of his teammates. “I couldn’t have asked for a more fitting end to our DI journey,” he said. “While the title of three-time global champions is a huge honor, I am most proud of our team, how we’ve grown in the past years, the connections we’ve made, and the art that we’ve created. As we were high school seniors, our presentation this year was appropriately about a group of high school seniors trying to escape growing up, only to get trapped in the past. I am beyond grateful for all the experiences DI has offered me for the past nine years, but if our skit has taught me anything, it’s that beauty and closure is found in cherishing the past, but not dwelling in it, embracing change, and living life before it’s too late. As our team steps into a new chapter of our lives, we know that we are not alone. Thank you Timekeepers and DI!”

“Destination Imagination holds such a special place with me as I owe it some of my greatest memories,” said team member Rheanna Patel. “With this team specifically we’ve learned and grown together facing each season and challenge with more creativity and resourcefulness than the prior. I love this team for the lifetime of memories and experiences they’ve given me.”

“It’s been a crazy few years and I never would have thought we’d get to this point back when I started in 5th grade. Our skits have all commented on our experiences these past few years, from the utter insanity at the start of COVID to the sadness that comes with growing up and moving on to college,” said Abram Allen.

Cindy Kim, the team manager, was thrilled at the team’s victory. “It’s hard to put into words how proud I am of this exceptional group of future leaders,” she said. “They took every opportunity to use creativity, problem-solving skills and teamwork from DI to rise above every challenge life threw at them.”
