The Woodlands, TX – For World Habitat Day, Market Street in The Woodlands was the site of a unique construction project. Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, TX (Habitat MCTX) conducted a wall build at the Central Park section of the popular outdoors retail, dining, and entertainment venue.

The the event, dozens of volunteers and Habitat staff came with hard hats on head and tool belts on hips and hammers in hand to take tons of lumber and hardware and turn it into the walls that will later be used as the framework for a home constructed in Habitat Montgomery County’s Cedar Creek community in Conroe.

After the walls were completed, the community was invited to sign encouraging messages and blessings for the family soon to occupy the home. Even younger attendees were kept entertained with face painters, yard games and a balloon artist. After the construction event was completed, the walls were transported to Cedar Creek community to be part of a new home for a family.

Since 1989, Habitat MCTX has worked with volunteers and donors to improve the lives of families and individuals through affordable homeownership. With a hammer in hand, Habitat Montgomery County volunteers are building strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable shelter.

World Habitat Day at Market Street was sponsored by Market Street, Entergy, McCoy’s Building Supply and Ovintiv. For every dollar raised during the week of World Habitat Day, Ovinitv matched it dollar for dollar up to $5,000.

“We are grateful to Market Street for hosting us for a second year, and to all the sponsors supporting our mission to make the dream of homeownership a reality for families in our community,” said Habitat MCTX Executive Director Vicki Johnson.
