THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The John Cooper School’s Sophomore Class, along with their parents, spent Wednesday evening getting a head start on preparing for college admissions.

ophomores Prepare for the College Application Landscape

Dozens of families gathered to garner advice from some of the most prestigious colleges in the country, with admission professionals from Georgetown University, Boston College, Columbia University and others making a trip to The Woodlands, Tx to offer their best tips.

This College Application Case Studies Event has been an annual tradition for many years at Cooper. It is a key step the School’s College Counseling team offers to help prepare students and parents on their journeys to graduation.

Their work has been fruitful, with a 100% acceptance rate of Cooper students to four-year colleges and universities.

The special guests imparted their wisdom, stressing that students should “be your authentic selves,” and reminding families that “it’s a human process.” They went over the crucial steps in applying to colleges, what to include (and what not to include) in application essays, and what they personally looked at when deciding whether to accept or deny a student admission.

Both students and parents were reminded to look at colleges through a different lens, focusing on which school will be the right fit for the student.

The admission professionals that visited from all over the country include:

Jaime Briseño, Georgetown University; Claire Brockway, University of Chicago; John Chavez, Columbia University; Kendall Dacey, Southern Methodist University; Dana Marchant, University of Rochester; Emma O’Polka Armah, Grinnell College; Katie Phung, Boston College; Eric Sustar, JP O’Hagan, Case Western Reserve University.

The John Cooper School is a PK-12 independent, college preparatory day school that has been serving The Woodlands and greater Houston area since 1988.
