23 Conroe ISD Teams Advance to Destination Imagination State Tournament

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Conroe ISD sent 137 Destination Imagination teams, ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, to compete in regional competition, with 23 selected to advance to the State Tournament March 24-26 in Arlington.

Sixteen teams placed first in their categories, and seven placed second to earn their places at State. Additionally, three seniors from The Woodlands College Park High School and one from Grand Oaks High School were awarded the Sara Galley Scholarship.

Schools and the number of teams each has advancing to the State Tournament:

• Tough Elementary: 4

• McCullough Junior High: 3

• Academy of Science & Technology: 2

• Mitchell Intermediate: 2

• Broadway Elementary: 1

• Collins Intermediate: 1

• Deretchin Elementary: 1

• Grand Oaks High School: 1

• Kaufman Elementary: 1

• Lamar Elementary: 1

• Milam Elementary: 1

• Ride Elementary: 1

• The Woodlands College Park High School: 1

• York Junior High: 1

Destination Imagination is an extracurricular program that strives to teach creative problem-solving strategies, teamwork, and life-long skills. Each year, students are offered seven new standards-based challenges in STEM, Improv, Visual Arts, Service Learning, and Early Learning. Teams choose one challenge and begin working in September to solve their challenge, then present their solution at the regional level to be appraised.

The Destination Imagination Global Finals will be held May 20-23 in Kansas City, Missouri.
