THE WOODLANDS, TX – Recently, residents of The Woodland Hills community gathered at the worksite of a new home under construction on Rosa Peace Terrace, in Willis. This site is the future home of US Army Sgt. Joanna Ellenbeck and her daughter, who were selected to receive the home mortgage-free thanks to the combined efforts of Century Communities, Howard Hughes Holdings, Inc., Operation Finally Home, and the Houston Texans.

The groundbreaking on the house project occurred in August, and at this latest event neighbors and residents were invited to come and write notes of inspiration, encouragement, support and welcome to the Ellenbecks on the studs and framing of the house.

Ellenbeck and her daughter, currently living in Arizona, are moving to the area to live closer to family and friends. This move will also help provide Ellenbeck’s daughter, who was born blind and has cerebral palsy, uses a wheelchair, with the medical, therapeutic, and educational support she needs. .

“We were excited to have Operation Finally Home here in The Woodlands Hills and to welcome our next veteran,” said Lorrie Parise, the director of PR & Community Relations for The Howard Hughes Corporation. “We’ve had quite a bit of people today – many of them neighbors and residents – who were very excited in welcoming Sgt. Ellenbeck to our community. This community is all about neighbors; it may sound cliché, but it’s a wholesome community where people really care about each other, so you’ll see a lot of that neighborly feel here.”

The house will be completed early next year and the build team will host a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Ellenbeck family at an event whose date will be announced in early 2024.
