PORTER, TX -- On May 18, 2024, at about 2:00 am, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 22000 block of FM 1314 in Porter for a single vehicle roll-over crash. Upon arrival, deputies met with the occupants of the vehicle who were already in the back of an ambulance being treated for injuries sustained during the vehicle crash.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the driver of the vehicle, Norma Miranda Estrada, was intoxicated. Estrada was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated, and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

The passenger in the vehicle, Adan Lopez, was identified as an off-duty Houston Police Officer. During the course of Ms. Estrada’s field sobriety testing and the investigation, Lopez refused to comply with deputies’ instructions and consistently interfered with the investigation. Lopez was arrested for Interfering with Public Duties and Unlawful Carry of a Weapon.

Preliminary investigations indicated Ms. Estrada was wearing her seat-belt during the crash, and Mr. Lopez was not. This also helped to determine who the driver of the vehicle was. Mr. Lopez sustained multiple facial injuries during the vehicle crash prior to law enforcement arriving on scene. Lopez was treated by EMS and taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries prior to his transport to the Montgomery County Jail. Houston Police Department Internal Affairs Division was contacted and also responded to the hospital to meet with Lopez prior to his transport.
