Thanksgiving morning is a time for family, gratitude and community, and one beloved local tradition brings all three together. The 37th Annual YMCA Run Thru the Woods invites runners, walkers and families to celebrate the holiday with a morning of fitness, fun and community spirit.

For 37 years, the YMCA Run Thru the Woods has brought thousands of community members together while supporting local nonprofits and helping strengthen The Woodlands, Spring and Oak Ridge communities. Over the event’s history, more than $4 million has been raised to benefit local organizations and make a positive impact throughout the area.

Whether you’re an experienced runner, enjoy a leisurely walk or want to get the kids involved in a fun Thanksgiving tradition, this annual event offers something for everyone.

Choose Your Race and Join the Fun

Participants can choose from several race and walking options designed to accommodate a variety of ages and fitness levels.

This year’s event features four ways to participate:

  • 5-Mile Race: A great option for runners looking for a longer challenge.

  • 3-Mile Race: Perfect for those who want to get moving before the Thanksgiving feast.

  • 3-Mile Walk: Enjoy the experience at a more relaxed pace.

  • 1-Mile Kids Race: Designed for children ages 2–12, giving young participants a chance to experience the excitement of race day.

With options for adults and children alike, the event is an opportunity for families and friends to start Thanksgiving together with a healthy and memorable activity.

Race Day Perks Make It Even More Fun

The YMCA Run Thru the Woods offers more than just a chance to run or walk. Participants can look forward to a variety of race-day extras, including an event T-shirt, custom finisher medal and race bib.

Select races also feature chip timing, race results and awards. Participants can capture memories at photo opportunities, enjoy post-race snacks and celebrate alongside fellow runners, walkers and supporters.

From the excitement of the starting line to the satisfaction of crossing the finish line, the event is designed to make Thanksgiving morning special for the entire community.

A Thanksgiving Tradition That Gives Back

While the races provide a fun way to stay active, the event’s community impact is at the heart of its mission. For more than three decades, the YMCA Run Thru the Woods has helped local nonprofits through fundraising efforts that benefit residents throughout The Woodlands, Spring and Oak Ridge.

Raising more than $4 million over the years, the event demonstrates how a community tradition can make a lasting difference while bringing people together for a common purpose.

Whether you’re participating in a race, walking with family or cheering on the runners, the YMCA Run Thru the Woods is a meaningful way to kick off the holiday and support the community.

Make the YMCA Run Thru the Woods part of your Thanksgiving tradition and enjoy a morning filled with fitness, family fun and giving back.
