As we approach the playoffs this week, I want to review the regular season and highlight some of the district's top statistical leaders. Most of these players are those you’d expect and have been discussed before, and these stats show why they are influential for their teams. Let’s explore a few different categories to see who finished at the top of the district.

Touchdowns, Receiving Yards Leader & All-Purpose Yards Leader:

Jermaine Bishop Jr: Willis Wildkats

  • Total Receiving Yards: 1,154
  • TDs Scored: 20
  • All-Purpose Yards: 1,760

It's no surprise that the first player on our list is Jermaine Bishop Jr., who leads in three different statistical categories. His fellow receiver, Jaivion Martin, ranks behind him with 823 yards, more than 300 yards less than Bishop's total. Bishop also leads in touchdowns by 4 and in all-purpose yards by nearly 200, with Keilan Gause in second place in both categories. Bishop has rushed for 4, caught 14, returned a punt for a TD, and had a pick-6, showing he can pretty much score from anywhere. Bishop has proven to be one of the top players in the district this season, as the Texas commit aims to maintain his dominance into the playoffs.

Other Notable Stats:

  • Passing TDs: 1
  • Interceptions: 2
  • Rushing Yards: 372
  • Longest Punt: 49 yards (leads team)

Passing Yards Leader:

Lincoln Frazier: Willis Wildkats

  • Total Passing Yards: 2,695

Looking at the numbers from Bishop and Martin, its no surprise that Lincoln Frazier tops the charts when it comes to passing yards. He leads the category by exactly 250 yards, with Camden Hughes right behind him. Frazier has had some great moments this season, showing off his excellent arm strength and getting the ball to his playmakers when it matters. Frazier has struggled with some interception and fumble issues, but the freshman is still very young in this system and could turn into a dangerous weapon later down the road.

Other Notable Stats:

  • Interceptions: 8
  • 63% completion rate
  • QBR: 123.1

Passing Touchdowns Leader:

Camden Hughes (College Park) & Lincoln Frazier (Willis)

  • Total Passing TDs: 33

A fascinating surprise, as both Frazier and Hughes are tied heading into the playoffs in passing touchdowns. We’ve already discussed Frazier, so let's focus on Hughes. The College Park quarterback has been outstanding this year, with 2,445 passing yards, just behind Frazier. Hughes has led the College Park team to an undefeated district title and looks to be one of the top quarterbacks entering the playoffs. However, no matter how either QB’s season ends, they have both played at an incredible level this season.

Rushing Yards Leader:

Keilan Gause: Grand Oaks Grizzlies

  • Total Rushing Yards: 1,364

It’s no surprise Gause is the rushing king this season, as the senior running back has been one of Grand Oak’s strongest players this season. Gause has been nothing short of impressive. Rushing for 100+ yards in 9 out of the 10 games Grand Oaks has played this year. He has scored 13 TDs on the ground and 3 TDs as a receiver, making him another top scorer in the district. He will lead his team into the playoffs to try and get the program's first 6A playoff win.

Other Notable Stats:

  • Rushing TDs: 13
  • All-Purpose Yards: 1,593
  • Average: 7.9 YPC

Total Points Leader:

Luke Crudgington: The Woodlands Highlanders

  • Total Points: 79

Now it might surprise some to learn that it's not always the guys who score a lot of TDs that end up on the top of the total points leaderboards. That spot usually goes to kickers, as every extra point counts for them, and the FGs they make only add to these higher totals. The Woodlands kicker, Luke Crudgington, makes the list with almost 80 points on the season, showing he is one of the more active kickers in the district. He isn’t always the most accurate, going 12/17 on FGs for the season, but he is still someone The Woodlands trusts to get them points if a drive stalls out. Moving forward, Crudgington will only amass more points as The Woodlands moves into the playoffs.

Other Notable Stats:

  • Total PATs: 41/41
  • FG Long: 49

Total Tackles Leader:

Caycen Bartolazzi: The Woodlands Highlanders

  • Total Tackles: 89

Our first defensive statistic is one of the most important: the tackle leader. Leading this stat is none other than DB Caycen Bartolazzi, who has established himself as one of the top defensive players in the district. Bartolazzi’s 89 tackles give him a 13-tackle lead over the second-place player, Scotty Routon of Grand Oaks. Bartolazzi is a key leader on this defense and has been crucial to The Woodlands' success on that side of the ball this year. He also contributes greatly to the special teams, returning a punt for a touchdown earlier and making several long returns that help set up his offense with good field position. Bartolazzi will be a player to watch in these playoffs and will likely be a determining factor for The Woodlands' defense.

Other Notable Stats:

  • Interceptions: 2
  • Solo Tackles: 56 (33 assisted)
  • Pass Deflections: 13

Sack Leader

Magnus Herndon: The Woodlands Highlanders

  • Total Sacks: 14.5

Yet another Highlander makes this list, emphasizing the importance of defense for them this season. A player we haven’t discussed much, Magnus Herndon is the sack leader this year, with a total of 4.5 sacks more than the #2 player Cullen Thompson from Grand Oaks. Herndon has been outstanding this season, rushing into the backfield on almost every play and pressuring the quarterback at an impressive pace. He has been a key part of this Woodlands defensive line and aims to stay a menace in the playoff hunt.

Other Notable Stats:

  • Total Tackles: 48
  • Caused Fumbles: 3
  • Sack Yards Lost: 78

Interceptions Leader

6 Way Tie With All Having 2 Interceptions

  • Caycen Bartolazzi (The Woodlands)
  • Macro Beltran (College Park)
  • Jermaine Bishop Jr. (Willis)
  • Jensen Solares (Grand Oaks)
  • Sam Harris (New Caney
  • Kevin Ross II (Grand Oaks)

It seems like everyone has a guy with 2 interceptions, as there's a six-way tie for first place in this category. All these players have excelled in pass coverage, including some names we’ve already mentioned. Maybe one of these players will make an interception in the playoffs to establish themselves as the leader when the season ends.

Exploring all these stat leaders really highlights the impact players of the year are having and who we should be watching in the playoffs. Players like Bishop, Gause, Hughes, and Bartolazzi are just a few examples of the talent this district has. Hopefully, these guys can make a strong run in the playoffs and help their teams reach the top.
