THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Training the brain not only helps children do better in school but can also assist adults who want to become better organized at the workplace.

The Woodlands LearningRx offers advice for disorganized adults and students

In either environment, there are ways to feel more together and less pressed for time, according to Kim Bellini, owner and director of The Woodlands LearningRx, a center that offers one-on-one programs to build brain power.

“Organizing your brain is the first step to organizing your life,” Bellini said. “And you can train your brain to get more done in less time.”

Here are a few of her tips to make the most of your mind – and get the most out of your time:

1. Take a Walk on the Logical Side. Bellini explains that people who are disorganized often suffer from anxiety. Fear keeps individuals from “getting it together.” Create a detailed schedule or budget to help you focus on the task at hand. Adults may fill out an expense report or use spreadsheets. Students should learn to use a planner. Try lists and calendars as aids in thinking rationally and fighting those anxieties.

2. Exercise Your Memory. At the beginning of the day, create a mental to-do list. This act stimulates working memory – the part of the brain that stores and uses complex information. If your thought process gets interrupted, make a conscious effort to stay on track. This will help you gain a greater sense of control.

3. Take a break. There is a limit to what a person can accomplish. In fact, most adults can only focus on a task for about an hour. Give your brain a chance to recharge. Taking a break actually will make you more productive and the project at hand less overwhelming.

The Woodlands LearningRx is more than a tutoring center – offering one-on-one training to build specific cognitive skills that enable children and adults to overcome learning difficulties and excel in school or work.

The center offers brain-training programs for individuals of all ages -- programs that enhance a child’s ability to learn, read and succeed in school, methods for adults to better face work-related challenges, and programs for senior citizens who want to stay sharp and improve their quality of life.
