MAGNOLIA, Texas— The Legacy Lion’s varsity football team traveled to Wortham High School Friday night, where the first game of the season ensued. The home team took advantage of the field and won 20-14.

The score remained tied at 0-0 until the second quarter, where both teams made it into the end zone. Senior Ben Bargainer ran in Legacy’s first TD of the year, and kicker Brady Harvey put the team in the lead 6-7.

Senior Travis May raised the score with a second touchdown in the third quarter, allowing Harvey to score a second PAT. Wortham’s team scored twice more in the third and last quarters, adding two points by running it in with a few minutes left on the clock.

“I thought our team played hard and with heart last night,” said May. “We had Wortham beat 38-14 if we hadn’t had blown our possessions.”

“We played with a high level of intensity and aggressiveness,” says junior Bobby Cruthirds, who is looking forward to a successful season. “We still have a lot of areas to improve on. We are just going to focus every week on the opponent in front of us and play each game with passion and ferocity.”

The Lions’ next game is on September 4th at Evadale High School and starts at 7pm.
