THE WOODLANDS, TX - Tickets to The Woodlands Charities’ Annual Chef Showdown are on sale now. You won’t want to miss this event that will ring in the Cinco de Mayo weekend with a Mexican flair – food, dancing and lots of fun! The event is Friday, May 3rd and will be held at The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center beginning at 6:00 pm. Once again, local celebrity chefs will be competing for the coveted Golden Fork and Silver Spoon trophies.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Assistance League of Montgomery County’s Operation School Bell®. Lisa Waddell, Operation School Bell® Chair, had this to say about what this program does, “Not only does it clothe the economically disadvantaged children of Montgomery County, it gives them pride and self-esteem. School counselors have reported positive changes in students – from frowns to smiles and lower discipline problems.”

Operation School Bell® is the signature program of National Assistance League, as well as every chapter of Assistance League across the nation. The chapter started this program in 1988 when 33 children were provided with new clothing for school. Today all six Montgomery County school districts are served and over 4,000 children receive new clothing each year.

For every $100 donated to The Woodlands Charities, Inc. this year, we will be able to clothe one more student (from elementary through high school). Operation School Bell® partners with Walmart, JCPenney, Burlington and Kohl’s to allow students to shop tax free for new clothes, shoes, underwear and jackets. “They are thrilled that they can personally choose their clothing and cannot wait to wear them proudly to school!” said Carolyn Jones, President of Assistance League of Montgomery County.
