THE WOODLANDS, TX -- A hot start that included a two-run double and a solo homer was enough for the Oak Ridge Lady War Eagles to send the country’s number one softball team home in the Area Round of the 6A state playoffs.

The Ridge scored three runs on seven hits, five of the hits and all three runs came in the first three innings to beat Cedar Ridge 3-1 and give the Raiders their first and only loss of the year.

After two days of severe weather across the state turned a three-game series into a single elimination game at Mumford High School, Oak Ridge showed up ready to take advantage of good weather and a winner-take-all scenario. Morgan Brandon stepped into the pitcher’s circle for the War Eagles and proceeded to put the nation’s best team on lockdown for seven innings. Brandon pitched a complete game, only allowing one run and three hits, and striking out six Raiders in Saturday’s win.

Oak Ridge got rolling early in the first inning when a RBI double by Morgan Dutton brought Brittany Cobb and Kennedy Reynolds across home plate. Reynolds returned in the top of the third to send the War Eagles fans in attendance into a frenzy by launching a solo home run high over the center field wall to increase their lead to three.

With the win, Oak Ridge advances to the Regional Quarterfinals. The Lady War Eagles will host Cypress Ranch on Friday, May 10 at 5 p.m. The game will be played at Grand Oaks High School.
