HS Softball Playoffs: The Lady War Eagles Soldier On As the Last Remaining 13-6A Squad
OAK RIDGE NORTH, TX -- Following a Bi-District Round where all 13-6A playoff teams defeated their opponents, a tough go during the Area Round saw three out of the four squads lose their games and thus their seasons.
College Park’s first-ever playoff win was marred by a 3-4 loss at the hands of Klein Oak, The Woodlands fell due to an explosive Klein Collins squad, and the Lady Tigers of Conroe were toppled by a Bridgeland squad that sits inside the Texas top 20 according to MaxPreps.
After the dust had settled, only one team was left standing in the form of the Oak Ridge Lady War Eagles. The Co-District Champions have ridden a strong wave of momentum from the end of the regular season into the playoffs. With their last loss coming on April 2nd, Oak Ridge has stayed ahead of the pack to emerge as a top 25 team in Texas, with little signs of slowing down.
Their Bi-District matchup against 14-6A’s Aldine Nimitz ended in an 11-1 blowout that highlighted the dazzling abilities of the Oak Ridge hitters when they warm up. Dominance on the defensive end aided the team in securing a well-deserved Bi-District title.
A date with Waller in the Area Round was less clean than the previous game, but the result still favored the Lady War Eagles.
Back-and-forth scoring saw both teams put their best foot forward hoping to advance to the next round, but a better effort from Oak Ridge allowed the team to take an 11-9 win over the scrappy Lady Bulldogs.
The Area win established Oak Ridge as the only team in 13-6A to reach the Regional Quarterfinals. Their next task will pit them against another scrappy squad that has already beaten a 13-6A opponent.
Klein Collins entered the playoffs as Co-District Champions of 15-6A, tied with the Klein Oak Lady Panthers. Their warpath of toppling teams began with an opening round sweep of Cypress Woods followed by a 8-6 victory over The Woodlands Lady Highlanders.
A wave of destructive offense during the second and third innings was enough to keep the Lady Tigers ahead of The Woodlands for the remainder of the game.
The collision of winning streaks now leads to a quarterfinal matchup that will see one team leave in defeat and the other advance to new heights. The red-hot Lady War Eagles against the fierce Lady Tigers all for the hopes of extending their playoff stay a tad longer.
The game will take place on Thursday, May 9th at 6:00 at Grand Oaks High School.
