THE WOODLANDS, TX -- This week’s live game from Woodforest Stadium will feature two teams looking for their first win of the young season. The Caney Creek Panthers come into their first home game of the year following a 49-20 loss to Lake Creek High School. The Panthers will look to build on an improved performance in the second half of last Friday's loss. The Panthers are adjusting to the new scheme of new head coach Ned Barrier, so the team will continue to improve with each rep this season.

Caney Creek quarterback Isaiah Mendoza flashed some play-making ability in week one. The Panthers QB picked up three total touchdowns, one through the air and two on the ground, in the loss. Defensively, Caney Creek was able to force a turnover early in the game. They will need to build off of that and look to create more short-field opportunities for the offense, or even score on defense, while the offense takes time to get comfortable in their new roles.

If there was an opponent to look forward to playing in your first home game following a loss, it might Pro-Vision Academy. Last season, The Warriors gave up 62 points in a shutout loss to Caney Creek. In that game, Panthers running back Spencer Brandon rushed for over 150 yards and scored 4 TDs. That’s great news for a coach like Barrier who wants to run the ball and be a physical football team.

That said, as we’ve already seen from week one, every year brings a new team. Games that were one-sided a year ago, turned out to be very competitive. Pro-Vision will definitely have this in mind as they look to play spoiler at Woodforest Bank Stadium.

Thursday’s game will be a Woodlands Online live broadcast brought to you by Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center with replays by Woodlands Dental Group. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
