CONROE, TX -- Harry Houdini may have died nearly 100 years ago but his spirit definitely lived on at Moorhead Stadium Friday night. Klein Oak pulled a rabbit out of their respective hat with a come-from-behind 29-25 victory with a last-minute touchdown run by senior quarterback Montrel Bolton.

Conroe handled everything the 13th ranked team in the city threw at them Friday night but when it came down to a 4th and 15 play late in the 4th quarter Klein Oak found a way to deliver. Under heavy pressure Bolton would find four-star wide receiver Dwight McGlothern for a 40 yard gain, shifting momentum to the Panthers and leading to the Panthers eventual final score.

With less than a minute to play Bolton would score on a 2-yard touchdown run to give Klein Oak its final score.

Klein Oak head football coach Jason Glenn had nothing but high praise for the Tigers and their second-year coach Cedric Hardeman after the game.

“Coach Hardeman, that’s a hell of a coach,” said Glenn, himself in his third season with the Panthers.

“What that man is doing with the whole community of Conroe is amazing. That's how you run a program, it is what we saw tonight.”

Many in the Conroe community were battered by the recent torrential rains from Tropical Depression Imelda, leaving many Conroe players and students with flooded homes.

“Everyone wants to talk about Klein Oak (tonight) but the real story is right here in Conroe and what this man is doing here for this team and this community.”

Conroe (2-2, 1-1) goes on the road next Saturday with a tough matchup against an improved Klein Cain team, and Klein Oak will host the top district team The Woodlands Friday night at Klein Memorial Stadium.
