THE WOODLANDS, TX – All things being equal, Woodlands area residents emerged from the Great Christmas Freeze of 2022 relatively unscathed; the power grid held firm and many brittle pipes had already been replaced from last February’s freeze. Those without power were mainly dealing with blown transformers and downed power lines for a few hours, and those without water had a plethora of plumbers to call: perhaps they checked out the Woodlands Online Business Directory.

One more night of sub-freezing temps, then the Great Thaw can begin

On this Boxing Day Monday (named for boxing up the leftover gifts and food to give to the needy, not after any pugilists), temps are already soaring. We’re well above the freezing point and will hit a high of about 58 this afternoon. Plummeting winds and diminishing cloud cover will make this a perfect day to hit the local stores and exchange your gifts.

Overnight (actually, early tomorrow morning), we’ll once again hit a low temperature below freezing, with the thermometer hitting around 28. Go to bed with your pipes still wrapped, your faucets still dripping, your plants covered, and your pets indoors with a clear frame of mind, because come Tuesday morning we’ll be out of the freezing and into the thaw.

Tuesday will start off mostly sunny as temps crawl up to a high of 54. In the afternoon, however, clouds will meander in, warming things up in the evening and allowing us to sleep easy with a low temp of 34 – barely above freezing, but still above it.

Wednesday will continue the warming trend as the pressure drops, the humidity rises, the clouds form, and the chances of rain increase. We’ll actually hit a high in the mid 70s by early afternoon, and the low of 63 will be way higher than the high temps of just a day or so before.

As Wednesday morphs into Thursday, the clouds will keep rolling in as the thunderstorms make an appearance from seeming out of nowhere. We’ll hit a high of 75 as it’s pretty much guaranteed that all of us will get rain at some point, and higher winds will make being outdoors even more hairy. The precipitation will keep the low temperature in the 60s, but by this time all of your previously frozen pipes should be completely thawed and running smoothly; if not, call one of the plumbers in our Business Directory.

You’ll wake up Friday morning to more rain showers than thunderstorms, with lessening winds and an easing of the intensity of the storms from the day before. The rain may ease, but the clouds will remain, blanketing the sky and keeping out high temp around 75. With luck, your weekend will be drier and more outdoors-friendly, but be prepared for more of the wet stuff next week…

Stay tuned on Friday as we bring you Woodlands Weekend Weather.
