THE WOODLANDS, TX – Several schools in The Woodlands area are participating in National Walk & Roll to School Day events this and next week, starting on Tuesday, October 1.

The first National Walk & Roll to School Day – called Walk Our Children to School Day – was held in 1997. Since then, it’s come a long way. In May 2012, the first-ever National Bike & Roll to School Day – called Bike to School Day – was celebrated across the U.S.

The event was conceived to promote healthier habits, a cleaner environment, safety, and community. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that children and adolescents get one hour or more of physical activity each day. Research suggests that physically active kids are more likely to become healthy, physically active adults, underscoring the importance of developing the habit of regular physical activity early.
