COLLEGE STATION, TX -- The Woodlands Highlanders bested the competition to secure the State Title at the Texas 7-On-7 Tournament in College Station through intense play on Friday and Saturday.

Perfect play from the talented Highlanders saw the 13-6A runners-up for 2025 emerge as an undefeated, 3-0 champion of their pool.

The teams of Azle, Palo Duro, and Westwood tried and failed to upend The Woodlands, but end-to-end play from skill and defensive positions kept the games thoroughly on the Highlanders’ side.

Joining The Woodlands in the championship bracket were the rivaling College Park Cavaliers and Willis Wildkats, who entered as 3-0 and 2-1 contenders, respectively.

The opening round saw the Wildkats defeat College Park, eliminating them from the tournament, while the Highlanders secured a 20-point win to emphasize their skills to the rest of the competition.

A couple more victories for the Highlanders and Wildkats pushed the dueling teams into the final four on opposite sides of the bracket. But while Willis fell to South Oak Cliff out of DFW, the Highlanders entered the championship game on the heels of a 33-28 win against Dripping Springs.

The championship game drew the eyes of many, with Dave Campbell’s, Sports Illustrated, and 247Sports all looking to get a snapshot of the action.

Luckily for the competing sources, a dazzling display of football prowess from the Highlanders highlighted the skills of the North Montgomery area in a 27-7 victory for The Woodlands. Their combination of skillful route runners and accurate passers secured the championship belt, which was flexed for all to see on the team’s social media accounts.

The championship sets the Highlanders up ahead of a season where the hopes of returning to the mountaintop of 13-6A will be in full focus. Back-to-back years of Willis football controlling the district championship will be threatened by this powerful Woodlands squad.
