Z Hemani – a rising senior and rising star at The John Cooper School – spearheads donation partnership with The Champions Project
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Unlike many of his peers, Z Hemani isn’t languishing his summer break away by spending countless hours at the poolside or mall. Instead, this bright young man is using his ‘free’ time to better the community and – by extension – the world.
Not only did he enjoy a summer internship at The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce, but he and several of his compatriots at The John Cooper School formed the Founder, Dragon Play Youth Football Camp, which recently completed its second year in a row in what started as a small initiative that has grown into a full team effort, complete with a new website, strong community support, and a powerful mission.
This year, the camp proudly partnered with The Champions Project, a local nonprofit that empowers youth through sports. In just three weeks, they raised $2,000 through sign-ups and donations.
“We’ve wrapped up an amazing summer where we raised money for The Champion Project, a local nonprofit supporting youth in foster care,” he told Woodlands Online. “To celebrate, we’re hosting a check presentation. The founders of The Champion Project will be there, along with our volunteer coaches and some of the kids and families who made it all happen.”
The Champion Project connects caring adults with youth in foster care, living in staffed facilities, through our mentoring, tutoring and literacy programs.
The student team that comprises the camp includes Hemani as founder and head coach and Andre Wilson as the administrative assistant, and coaching time consisting of Pierson Todd, Eric Sipko, Colten Rhoden, Campbell Starley, Kian Yousenasna, Luke Horak, Tayden Robbins, David Esquivel, Christopher Prettyman, and Pancho Mena.
