THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Angel Reach, the Montgomery County nonprofit focused on meeting the needs of youth who have aged out of the foster care system and those living with relatives in kinship homes, was recently awarded a grant from the Montgomery County Community Foundation. The funds will go towards programming that promotes healthy lifestyle choices such as individualized nutrition coaching, hands-on cooking classes, on-site yoga instruction and gym memberships.

Dedicated to supporting community betterment, Montgomery County Community Foundation awarded a grant to Angel Reach to further client wellness initi

“When you know better, you do better. Our goal is to empower our youth to gain the knowledge and experience of how improvement of physical, emotional and mental health lays the foundation to build overall success,” said Dan Alexander, Angel Reach Chief Executive Officer. “Many of the youth entering our program lack role models who promote healthy lifestyles, have lacked access to nutritious meals, and often don’t understand the importance of healthy eating and consistent wellness habits.”

With the support of Montgomery County Community Foundation, Angel Reach will be able to offer access to local gyms as well as activities like boxing, karate and Tae Kwon Do that promote discipline and skill development. Classes offered on-site will teach stress reduction, emotional regulation and mindfulness. And hands-on cooking instruction will cover topics such as nutrition, recipe reading, grocery planning and shopping, preparation skills and flavor combinations.

“Growing up in the foster care system, most of the youth who come to Angel Reach have had few opportunities to practice or pursue activities that encourage long-term health,” said Alexander. “We’re exceedingly grateful to MCCF for this gift that will impact these young lives in such a positive and basic way.”

Montgomery County Community Foundation, established in 1983 by Reverend Don Gebert and George Mitchell, is a permanent fund that provides for the present and future well-being of the community by acting as a hub where local donors, nonprofits and community needs meet.

Angel Reach relies on grants, individual and corporate donors, and provides financial and volunteer opportunities for community support. To find out more, visit the website at www.AngelReach.org.
