Who Are The Best Players in The District and Who Should You be Watching?

This year, we’ve seen some outstanding players stand out in the district so far. While one player alone doesn’t make a team, having a few stars on both sides of the ball can make a big difference. Today, we will look at some of the key players, examine their performance this season, and discuss their impact on the team. I will do my best to highlight these players, focus on key aspects of each player’s game, and explain why I believe they are some of the most exciting players to watch this year. I’ve limited myself to only one player per team for now, as some teams have multiple players I could go on and on about, so a second part might be due for some of the guys who don’t get mentioned today. So, grab a snack and get comfortable as we dive into the most electric players this district has to offer.
Jermaine Bishop Jr. (Willis Wildkats)
Position(s): DB, WR, RB, KR, QB, P
Of course, we will start with Jermaine Bishop Jr., who, over four games, has demonstrated why he is one of the top athletes in Texas and a key player for the Willis team. Bishop, a composite 4-star athlete with a 5-star rating on 247 Sports, is currently committed to the University of Texas at Austin, making him one of the top prospects from the district this year. Yes, you read that list right—Bishop has played multiple positions, including serving as Willis’s punter against The Woodlands, where he recorded the team's longest punt of the season at 49 yards. He has also lined up as quarterback, throwing one touchdown, also against The Woodlands. Bishop seems to be a versatile player for the Wildkats, and they rely heavily on him this season for big plays. So far, he has accumulated 552 receiving yards and six touchdowns, along with 271 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Including his passing touchdown, along with the yards from that pass, Bishop totals 844 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. For reference, 250 of those 271 rushing yards came from The Woodlands game alone. If he isn’t already one of the top offensive players, he also plays every snap on defense, with 29 tackles this year, including three tackles for loss. Watching Bishop play really shows the difference between an athlete at the next level and an average high school player. He is extremely quick, able to accelerate rapidly to beat defenders when running outside. His shifty moves allow him to shed tackles easily or get around two or even three defenders who think they have him cornered. On defense, he’s quick to the ball, attacking fast downhill and staying engaged once he’s on a ball handler. He covers the middle of the field very effectively, shutting down many crossing routes and jumping on receivers heading into his zone. His athletic ability is unmatched, and he’s always a presence on the field. He’s an electric player who is the heart and soul of his team, and I look forward to seeing how he finishes the rest of the season and beyond.
Camden Hughes (College Park Cavaliers)
Position: QB
There are many good QBs in this district this season, but one player who has stood out to me is Camden Hughes of College Park. Hughes has been a key part of this offense so far, throwing for a staggering 1221 yards and eye-popping 17 touchdowns. This doesn’t even include his rushing ability, which has gained him 134 yards and 4 touchdowns. Overall, Hughes has contributed to 21 scores this season, helping College Park have one of the highest-scoring offenses in the district. He's very effective at spreading the ball among his receivers, with players like Julian Cromartie, Brian Snodgrass, and Kaylen Stephens all having 3 or more touchdowns this year. Besides his impressive stats, Hughes is still only a junior, so we could be seeing a player who improves even more in his senior year. Since he's in the class of 2027, his recruiting rating isn’t fully developed yet; he has only two offers on record, from UTSA and UNT. I expect those offers to keep coming if he continues playing like this- he's been electric this year and a big reason why College Park looks like one of the top teams in the district. I can’t wait to see how he performs for the rest of the season and what College Park can achieve with him leading the way.
Jack Daulton (The Woodlands Highlanders)
Position: QB
The Woodlands has developed some excellent QB talent in recent years, and Jack Daulton is a major part of that. Daulton has had a remarkable season so far, building on his strong 2024 campaign that saw him throw for 1776 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also contributed with his rushing ability, gaining 1261 yards and 18 scores, which helped lead the Highlanders to an 11-2 record and a solid playoff run. This year, Daulton looks to be returning to his form; through 4 games, he has amassed 867 passing yards, 216 rushing yards, and 9 touchdowns. The 867 passing yards are just under half of what he achieved in 2024, and it only took him 4 games to reach that total this season. Although his passing numbers have been impressive, his scoring and rushing have taken a back seat, as The Woodlands has faced a few close games this year. Overall, though, Daulton has impressed me this season. He can make some high-level throws, has good spatial awareness, and can scramble effectively when his pocket collapses to hit receivers on the run. Additionally, he hasn’t thrown any interceptions this year; one of his few mistakes was losing the football in the red zone against Willis. Daulton is committed to TCU, rated as a 3-star recruit by 247 Sports and On3, ranking as a top 35 QB prospect. It will be interesting to see how he performs at the next level, and I hope we get to see more of him when he gets there. For now, it will be intriguing to watch how he continues his strong start this season and whether he can lead his Highlanders back to the playoffs.
Keilan Gause (Grand Oaks Grizzlies)
Position: RB
It’s been an interesting season for Grand Oaks, as they enter the year with plenty of talent and high expectations. One player who has really stood out in this 2025 campaign is Keilan Gause. So far this year, Gause has accumulated an impressive 525 rushing yards and four touchdowns, along with 79 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Those 525 rushing yards come from 73 carries, averaging about 7 yards per carry. What's even more impressive is that he shares time with teammate Bryan Victorian Jr., who has 46 carries this year. In the four games Grand Oaks has played so far, Gause has gained over 100 rushing yards in each game. That’s very impressive and shows me he can be consistent from game to game and hasn’t just had one or two standout performances. Want another interesting stat? Gause’s 525 rushing yards are only 7 yards shy of the team’s combined receiving yard total of 532 yards. As mentioned earlier, Gause had 79 of those yards in receiving, so his total yards actually surpass the rest of the wide receiver core, reaching 604 yards. Beyond his stats, Gause really impresses me when I watch him. He is elusive and agile, making cuts in or out effortlessly and evading tacklers with ease. Even against a tough Woodlands defense, Gause was able to break off a few good runs, showing it wasn’t just poor defenses outside the district that gave him all those yards. He has great speed and can switch into high gear quickly when he sees an open hole. His explosiveness helps him get past the first defender fast, opening up big plays and earning extra yards in the process. Overall, Keilan Gause has been a joy to watch this year, and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes for the rest of the season.
Alex Spence Myers (Conroe Tigers)
Position: RB
There are some fantastic running backs in the district this year, and while Gause is among the best, Alex Spence Myers isn’t far behind. So far this season, Spence Myers has accumulated 425 rushing yards with 4 touchdowns. He also has 118 receiving yards, bringing his total to an impressive 543 yards, the highest on the team. Spence Myers has been effective as a runner, averaging 6.1 yards per carry, with two games over 100 yards, including a 200-yard game against Alief Elsik. Conroe’s balanced offense relies on Spence Myers, as his good runs help open up the passing game. However, in the shutout loss to College Park, the Conroe rushing attack was completely shut down. Spence Myers didn’t make much impact in that game, finishing with -5 rushing yards, which shows he isn’t always effective against strong defenses like College Park. Overall, Spence Myers has been impressive this season, and I look forward to seeing how he leads Conroe for the rest of district play.
That’s all I got for todays piece and hope you enjoyed learning a little bit more about some of the amazing players in the district this year and some of the key parts of other teams that you might not follow as closely. Since I couldn’t cover everyone today, I thought I’d put a honorable mentions list below going over some other players I think are awesome.
