Road closures and travel impacts of this weekend’s Woodlands Marathon races

The Woodlands Marathon on Saturday, February 28, 2026, will feature significant road closures and traffic impacts from 6:00 a.m. through early afternoon.  The event includes the full marathon, half marathon, and 10K, 5K, and 2K races, with the most substantial disruptions along major corridors. 

Key Road Closures and Traffic Changes

  • Eastbound Lake Woodlands Drive: Fully closed from Kuykendahl Road to Grogan’s Mill Road between 6:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
  • Westbound Lake Woodlands Drive: Converted to contra-flow (two-way traffic) from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., carrying eastbound traffic from Lake Front Circle to Palmer Green. 
  • Eastbound Research Forest Drive: Closed to traffic. 
  • Northbound Kuykendahl Road: Closed until 9:20 a.m.
  • Northbound/Southbound Gosling Road: Closed until 10:15 a.m.
  • Woodlands Parkway Westbound On Ramp/Grogan’s Mill: Closed until 11:30 a.m. 

Roads to Avoid

  • Lake Robbins Drive
  • Grogan’s Mill Road
  • Timberloch Place
  • East Panther Creek Drive
  • West Panther Creek Drive
  • Kuykendahl Road northbound

Alternate Routes

  • The Woodlands Country Club: Use Lake Woodlands Contraflow Lane from Grogan’s Mill, then turn right on Cochran’s Crossing. 
  • Market Street & The Woodlands Mall: Use Woodlands Parkway to I-45, go north on I-45, then take the Lake Woodlands Drive exit. 
  • Woodlands Resort & Grogan’s Mill Farmers Market: Take I-45 to West on Woodlands Parkway, U-turn at East Panther Creek, then east on Woodlands Parkway to Grogan’s Mill. 
  • Bear Branch Sports Park: Take I-45 to West on Research Forest (westbound is open). 

Important Notes

  • “Fully open” means cones are removed, signals are normal, and traffic officers are no longer holding traffic. 
  • Only residential traffic is recommended through the race course between 6:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
