What Does Freedom Mean to Your Body?

Sometimes freedom isn't about where you are. It's about how you feel. We wanted to ask a different question: What does freedom mean to your body? For some people, freedom might mean waking up without tension in their shoulders.

For others, it could mean falling asleep without racing thoughts. Maybe it's freedom from constant stress, chronic overwhelm, feeling exhausted all the time, or carrying the weight of a never-ending to-do list.

We often think of freedom as something outside of ourselves, a vacation. Even when it's time to relax, the body doesn't seem to get the message.

Well that's because your nervous system has a memory. When we spend weeks, months, or years operating in a state of stress, rush, and constant stimulation, our bodies can become accustomed to staying on high alert.
That doesn't mean anything is wrong with you. It simply means your body has learned to stay prepared.

You are the one who has to teach your body something different.

The good news is that the nervous system can learn something different.
Moments of stillness, deep relaxation, quality sleep, intentional recovery, and experiences that allow us to disconnect from constant demands all help create opportunities for the body to shift into a more restorative state.

That's one reason so many guests tell us that floating isn't just relaxing. It's often the first time they've experienced complete quiet in years.
