Montgomery County Emergency Management Monitoring Gulf System With Potential for Tropical Development

The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (MCOHSEM) is monitoring an area of low pressure located approximately 125 miles south of southeastern Louisiana that has the potential for tropical development over the next several days.

The National Hurricane Center currently gives the system a 30% chance of tropical development during the coming days.

While significant strengthening is not currently anticipated, slow development remains possible as the system drifts westward across the northern Gulf of Mexico. The system could increase rain chances across Southeast Texas and potentially bring some much-needed rainfall to the Montgomery County area.

MCOHSEM will continue monitoring the system and coordinating with its partners at the National Weather Service. Additional updates will be provided as conditions warrant.

Officials are also reminding residents that hurricane season is still underway and encouraging everyone to remain vigilant and prepared.
