Platt leads College Park sweep of Clear Lake
THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The College Park High School volleyball team (12-6), led by senior Andi Platt, brought out the brooms in sweeping a non-district home tilt Tuesday night over a game Clear Lake (14-12) team, 3-0 (25-22,25-18,25-19).
Platt led the way with 18 digs and 23 assists.
The Lady Cavaliers came out sluggish in Game 1 not taking the lead until 14-13 on a seeing-eye dump by senior Alyssa McNeely. From there it was a see-saw affair to the finish.
Emily Thorson slammed one home to tie things up at 21 and Maya Arguez followed suit with another slam putting the Lady Cavaliers up by one. Macy Rabson made it three slams in a row for CP on a nice feed from Platt. Two points later a Hannah Erwin serve gave the home team Game One, 25-22.
Platt won five serves in a row to start Game 2 before the Lady Falcons could get on the board. Down 7-1, Clear Lake started a mini comeback with two points in a row to draw closer at 7-3 before CP sophomore Kennedi Smith answered. The Lady Cavaliers quickly scored two more points thanks to a Thorson block followed by a Thorson thunder slam and College Park was off to the races.
A Rabson to Thorson connection made it 19-6 and it seemed like it would be smooth sailing for College Park from there.
Clear Lake had other ideas in winning eight straight points to get back in the game, 19-14. College Park coach, Candace Collins had seen enough as she called a time out to motivate her charges. Whatever Collins said seemed to work as the Lady Cavs breezed to a Game 2 victory, 25-18.
Game 3 saw Clear Lake offer some resistance but the game was never in doubt and College Park cruised to victory, 25-19, to close out the match.
Thorson player her usual consistent game in gathering 16 assists and 15 kills. Erwin had 13 assists and led in aces with two. McNeely had nine kills and three huge blocks. Robson had three blocks as well.
Sophomore Libero Savannah Rutledge kept the Lady Cavaliers in points throughout the match making herself visible all over the court.
Coach Collins was pleased with her team's all around play; "I felt like we played really well tonight and I saw a lot of growth on some things that we've been working on that we executed tonight in the match."
On Clear Lake going on an eight point run, she said; "I think the momentum just swung for a little bit and we started making mistakes and they started building on it. It's just important to remember it doesn't matter until the scoreboard says 25."
College Park hosts Austin Westlake at 6 p.m. Friday.
