SHENANDOAH, Texas -- The Shenandoah City Council will welcome two new council members and two returning members following the general election held on May 10, 2014.

Newcomer Michael McLeod was elected to Position 5 in the City’s only contested race. He currently serves as president of the Shenandoah Sharks Swim Team board of directors. John Houston ran unopposed to fill a vacancy in Position 2 and was appointed to assume his role on April 23, 2014. He is retired as vice president of an electrical contracting company.

Mayor Wes Stephens administered the oath of office to Mr. Houston during a recent city council meeting. “Mr. Houston and his family have been active and valued members of the Shenandoah community for over two decades. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the group and I am quite pleased to have him join the City Council,” said Stephens.

Incoming Mayor Garry Watts will take his seat at the regular City Council meeting on May 26, 2014, along with incumbent Gary Henson who was also unopposed for Position 1. Mr. Watts previously served as a city council member and as mayor, and has a business background in marketing and real estate. Mr. Henson is in mortgage banking and will start his second term in Position 1.

Mike McLeod replaces outgoing member Jason L. Frazer and John Houston fills the vacancy left by former council member Ron Hyde who resigned in January. Mr. Frazer will continue to serve as president of the Shenandoah Municipal Development District board of directors.
