THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands is hosting “Type 1 Diabetes in the Student Athlete,” focused on educating and preparing patients and families for a safe and successful athletic year.

The program will include presentations from several care providers, including a discussion with Sarah Dobkins, registered dietitian and board-certified specialist in sports dietetics, about the importance of nutritional considerations for athletes with type 1 diabetes. Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from a sports physical therapist about how to ensure the diabetes management plan is effectively implemented on the sidelines.

The mother of a child with type 1 diabetes, and co-founder of Type 1 To Go, will educate fellow parents about 504 plans and extracurricular activities. Also, former professional football player, Brandon Green, will share his personal story of diagnosis and his successful journey managing his type 1 diabetes during all levels of athletics.
