Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Investigates Fatal Stabbing at Large Gathering

MONTGOMERY, TX -- On March 12, 2022 at about 9:00PM, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a disturbance in progress in the 1600 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in Montgomery. While Deputies were en route, updated information received by dispatch indicated that there was a possible stabbing on location. When Deputies arrived, they found a large gathering of people, and one individual who appeared to have been stabbed, and was unresponsive. EMS was summoned, and Deputies immediately began life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, 33 year old Steven Smith of Louisiana succumbed to his injuries. A suspect was identified on scene, and detained.

Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide / Violent Crimes Unit arrived shortly thereafter to begin piecing together the events that led to this tragic incident. At this time, the investigation is still on-going. The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending the completion of the investigation, and the filing of formal charges.
