Dr. Stephen Popp, The John Cooper School’s Head of School Elect, Joins Montgomery County Food Bank’s Board of Directors

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Montgomery County Food Bank today announced that Dr. Stephen Popp, The John Cooper School’s Head of School Elect, has been appointed to Montgomery County Food Bank’s (MCFB) Board of Directors.

As a seasoned educator and school administrator with more than 24 years’ experience in education, Dr. Popp is committed to fostering caring, educational environments, and to developing service-minded citizens, leaders, and lifelong learners. For the past seven years, Dr. Popp has led at The John Cooper School as Head of Upper School and Assistant Head of School. In 2021, he was chosen to lead The John Cooper School as Head of School.

Prior to joining The John Cooper School, Dr. Popp spent ten years teaching and leading at St. John’s School in Houston, Texas. He taught history and politics at St. John’s School, while also serving four years as Upper School Dean of Students. He especially enjoyed serving as Director of Breakthrough Houston, an educational program that places motivated students from underserved areas on the path to college.

Dr. Popp earned his Bachelor of Arts in history from Baylor University and earned a Master of Arts in history from the University of Houston as a James Madison Fellow. He also earned a Master of Education in independent school leadership from Columbia University. He completed his Doctorate in Education in leadership, learning and organizations at Peabody College at well-being in Independent Schools. Currently, he serves on the Board of the Nick Finnegan
Counseling Center in Houston, Texas. The organization strives to provide accessible and affordable counseling services to those in need.
