$1 million raised at record-breaking Habitat for Humanity ‘Building Hope’ gala
THE WOODLANDS, TX – The 12th annual ‘Building Hope’ gala, benefiting Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, drew hundreds of community luminaries to The Woodlands Waterway Marriott for an evening of Kentucky Derby-themed fun and fundraising.
The ‘All Bets on You’ gala, presented by LGI Homes and Laura and David Piccione and co-chaired by Tina Rivera and Kim Soderberg, broke all previous gala fundraising efforts by hitting the organization’s goal of $1,000,000.
The gala featured a welcome by master of ceremonies Patrick Tully, invocation by The Woodlands Methodist Church’s Jonah Robson, remarks from the co-chairs, a recognition of honorees Wayne and Deborah Austin, leadership remarks from executive director Vicki Johnson and board president Charles Merdian, a heartwarming homeowner story, and live and silent auctions, with music and dancing to round out the affair. There was also a raffle for a diamond necklace donated by Robichau’s Jewelry.
“Habitat MCTX strives to empower communities to provide affordable housing that builds strength, stability, and self-reliance. The current neighborhood of Cedar Creek is nearing completion and will have 129 homes once finished. Our next community, Marble Creek, will soon make a difference in the lives of over 200 families,” said co-chairs Rivera and Soderberg.
Marble Creek is a planned 81-acre community in Magnolia that will provide homes for 203 families, and includes parks, walking trails, and shared green spaces that foster connection and growth.
“We did it; we hit our $1,000,000 goal – a record-breaking gala for Habitat MCTX,” said executive director Vicki Johnson.Because of you – our incredible attendees, generous sponsors and underwriters, dedicated volunteers, and passionate supporters – our gala was truly a night to remember.”
Additionally, Johnson sent thanks to an anonymous angel. “And a very special thank you to a longtime donor who stepped up with a $25,000 matching gift last week, helping us cross the finish line and make Habitat MCTX history. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for building hope with us.”
